On a Wing and a Prayer SOLD

Sometimes we feel as if we're just making it on a wing and a prayer. I like to reflect on what Jesus tells us in Matthew 6, "Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?"

I've made previous pieces with this darling sparrow pendant. This time I added an afghan lapis charm and a little crystal. 31.5 inches of vintage bronze chain are finished with blue jade stones by the clasp.

Jenny's Gift

The Pearl Necklace
The cheerful girl with bouncy golden curls was almost five. Waiting with her mother at the checkout stand, she saw them: a circle of glistening white pearls in a pink foil box.

"Oh please, Mommy. Can I have them? Please, Mommy, please!"

Quickly the mother checked the back of the little foil box and then looked back into the pleading blue eyes of her little girl's upturned face.

"A dollar ninety-five. That's almost $2.00. If you really want them, I'll think of some extra chores for you and in no time you can save enough money to buy them for yourself. Your birthday's only a week away and you might get another crisp dollar bill from Grandma."

As soon as Jenny got home, she emptied her penny bank and counted out 17 pennies. After dinner, she did more than her share of chores and she went to the neighbor and asked Mrs. McJames if she could pick dandelions for ten cents.

On her birthday, Grandma did give her another new dollar bill and at last she had enough money to buy the necklace.

Jenny loved her pearls. They made her feel dressed up and grown up. She wore them everywhere--Sunday school, kindergarten, even to bed. The only time she took them off was when she went swimming or had a bubble bath. Mother said if they got wet, they might turn her neck green.

Jenny had a very loving daddy and every night when she was ready for bed, he would stop whatever he was doing and come upstairs to read her a story. One night when he finished the story, he asked Jenny, "Do you love me?"

"Oh yes, Daddy. You know that I love you."

"Then give me your pearls."

"Oh, Daddy, not my pearls. But you can have Princess--the white horse from my collection. The one with the pink tail. Remember, Daddy? The one you gave me. She's my favorite."

"That's okay, Honey. Daddy loves you. Good night." And he brushed her cheek with a kiss.

About a week later, after the story time, Jenny's daddy asked again, "Do you love me?"

"Daddy, you know I love you."

"Then give me your pearls."

"Oh Daddy, not my pearls. But you can have my babydoll. The brand new one I got for my birthday. She is so beautiful and you can have the yellow blanket that matches her sleeper."

"That's okay. Sleep well. God bless you, little one. Daddy loves you." And as always, he brushed her cheek with a gentle kiss.

A few nights later when her daddy came in, Jenny was sitting on her bed with her legs crossed Indian-style. As he came close, he noticed her chin was trembling and one silent tear rolled down her cheek.

"What is it, Jenny? What's the matter?"

Jenny didn't say anything but lifted her little hand up to her daddy. And when she opened it, there was her little pearl necklace. With a little quiver, she finally said, "Here, Daddy. It's for you."

With tears gathering in his own eyes, Jenny's kind daddy reached out with one hand to take the dime-store necklace, and with the other hand he reached into his pocket and pulled out a blue velvet case with a strand of genuine pearls and gave them to Jenny.

He had them all the time. He was just waiting for her to give up the dime-store stuff so he could give her genuine treasure.

What are you hanging on to?

Rustic Rose SOLD

Monday's post is going up a little bit early...and that's because I get to leave at 4 AM for summer vacation. Usually I get to sleep in the car while Mark is driving but this time, he's staying here to teach college classes and maintain our growing collection of small animals, while I am taking the kids and cousin to the family cabin for a couple of weeks. It'll be a rustic rest filled with early morning beach walks, gathering  shells, berry picking, old games (and new one's like my Uncle Steve's favorite, Redneck Life), and early evenings.

My favorite stone is back! After months of looking locally I had to order these from Hong Kong. Faceted cherry quartz rounds are accented with vintage copper for a decidedly feminine appeal. Necklace, 18 inches long and adjustable, is $33, Earrings on long copper kidney wires are $10, and Bracelet is $22.

Seashore Delight SOLD

O say can you see by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there;
O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave,
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On this day of celebration of our national freedom many of us flock to the seashore with our families. Great childhood memories are generated while digging in the sand for treasures. We upturn rusty bottle caps, old walnuts at times, and oooh, a chief delight, a perfect sanddollar or starfish may even turn up in the receeding tides.

Seashort Delight  is 30 inches of silver plated chain and finished with pearls by the rear lobster clasp. It carries a delighful assortment of charms--freshwater pearls, swarovski crystal, and a silver starfish and sand dollar.  Necklade is $25, Earrings $9

A Hope and a Future

It's always an honor and privilege when I am asked to create wedding jewelry. We girls tend to regard our weddings as one of the highlights of our lives...the occasion when "we" are on center stage and all eyes behold the bride in all her finery. I am amazed at all the ideas that I've seen generated on Pinterest for weddings, the pin boards crammed with ideas for the future wedding. Woman may say they are liberted and don't need marrige, but not for one minute do I believe it. We all want the wedding!

So, when SuAnn informed us that after many years of hoping for Mr. Right, she was blessed to enter into Holy Matrimony, and that she wanted me to create her bridal jewely, I felt warm all over.

I found the most darling petite dancing pearls, interspersed them with indigo sparkling czech crystal, and finished with an extender chain. Matching earrings featured the same stones.

"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jermiah 29:11
