The Magpie is Here

After the children are in bed and Mark is lodged in his upstairs office, a.k.a. the bedroom, grading essays or hacking away at his dissertation, I pull out my beads and try to make up my mind which project to begin first. The joy of anticipation. Last night evolved into the first, of hopefully a series, Magpie necklace. With black agate, red magnesite, black and white czech glass and silver ovals it's sure to dazzle and be a classic wardrobe staple, especially for those of us who like hot pink.

Speaking of which, Julianna is very upset that her father has a pink shirt. "Girls wear pink!" she strongly asserts. How do you explain to a child that her father is comfortable with his feminine side?

Mark is reading bedtime stories to the children as I write. I can hear his animated voice as the peddler in Caps for Sale. The house is fragrant with freshly baked pumpkin bread. And I am thankful for today. We are healthy, warm, well-fed, and we have humor. I thank God for laughter, especially the absurd.

Looking forward to our next bead party this Saturday. Man, this bread is good.

Up and Running

Yeah, it's official! Magpie Madness is up and running. Crazy name, right? It actually emerged from an exclamation that burst forth from my 6 year old son, Ian, while looking at beads in Michael's Crafts. "Mom," he shouted, "I'm a magpie; I like shiny things!" Yep, and he never shuts up either. Naturally, there were some sly smiles from nearby shoppers.

MagpieMadness is all about getting together with our peeps and socializing while we make earrings, bracelets, necklaces, wine charms, etc out of quality beads, stones, and czech glass. The selections varies with each party.

Thank you to all of you who contributed in time, prayers, brainstorming, and retail therapy. It's glorious to know I'm not the only one out here who loves shiny things.
